Hair Therapé FAQs

faq-hair

Organix-South announces the launch of TheraNeem Organix Hair Therapé Line., an innovative hair care line that offers intensely therapeutic hair and scalp benefits. Neem... the solution for healthy hair and scalps!

Q: What are some of the beneficial constituents found in Neem that support healthy hair, scalp and skin?
Around 180 chemical compounds have been isolated from Neem bark, leaf and oil. Neem contains potent antioxidants that help protect the body from oxidative damage caused by the environmental toxins and stress. Neem contains 1000 parts per million (ppm) quercetin, among the highest concentration found in plants tested for the phytochemical and ethnobotanical databases developed by Dr. James Duke. Quercetin is well known for its actions as an antioxidant and for supporting the body’s ability to respond to inflammation. Neem leaf, bark and oil contain powerful antioxidants including carotenes, ascorbic acid, terpenoids, limonoids and flavonoids [1]. Additionally, b-Carotene and vitamin C present in neem leaf play an important role in its radical scavenging properties. Nimbin and nimbidin have antiviral and antifungal properties. Gedumin in Neem leaf is noted for its antifungal actions.
*[1]Akhila, A; Rani K. Fortschr. Chem. Org. Naturst., 1999, 78, 47.

Q: In a plain language, what will Neem leaf and oil do for me?
A: Neem is: cooling, soothing and astringent. Cooling - it helps to cool and calm the skin, scalp, gums or wherever it is applied. Soothing - it has been used for thousands of years to support healthy skin and is traditionally used to help normalize irritated, rough or exceptionally dry skin. Astringent - this means it helps to tighten tissue, helping to normalize, balance and promote youthful and healthy skin and scalp.

Q: Are the ingredients in your original formula still the same?
A: Yes, the Original Formula (now called Gentle Therapé) has been such a success for our company, with hundreds of testimonials, many requesting that we ‘never change our formula.’ We have listened to our loyal customers and have not changed the formula. This formula is still perfect for all hair types and sensitive scalps.

Q: Why did you formulate each of the new hair therapé products?
A: I wanted to create the most therapeutic hair and scalp care line available today. So many people are challenged by sensitive or difficult hair and scalp issues. They need a product that is specific to their hair type as well as beneficial to their scalp. Our new TheraNeem Organix Hair Therapé line is hair type specific and all of our formulas are created to greatly benefit the hair and scalp with concentrated Neem oil and Neem leaf along with organic herbal extracts and essential oils. No other hair care line offers as much Neem power!

Q: What does it mean to offer highly concentrated Neem and organic herbal extracts?
A: Some common brands of shampoos and conditioners only use a very low concentration of herbal extracts, if any at all, in their hair care. TheraNeem Organix offers 45-48% organic herbal extracts with Neem oil and Neem leaf in every formula.

Q: What are the primary advantages of the new Hair Therapé line?
A: It is made with high concentrations organic ingredients.
The ingredients comply with the Whole Foods Premium Bodycare Standard.

  • Safe for Color-Treated Hair
  • Paraben Free/Sulfate Free
  • All formulas Gluten-Free
  • pH Balanced
  • Vegan
  • Neem is a potent antioxidant to better protect your scalp.

Q: What is the main difference for TheraNeem Organix Hair Therapé compared to other hair care products?
A: I formulated the hair care line to offer highly concentrated, therapeutic and organic ingredients. All of the Hair Therapé products are created for sensitive and/or challenged scalps. Each of the herbs, essential oils and other ingredients were selected to be highly effective for specific hair types.

Q: Why are your shampoos thinner than most?
A: All of our shampoos are thinner so that the intensely therapeutic ingredients can better penetrate the hair and scalp and provide nourishing benefits Other shampoos use added salt -- which can be drying -- or waxy emulsifiers that weigh down hair to thicken their products. You will still have a luxurious lather, but your hair won’t suffer needlessly.

Q: How are the formulas unique?
A: The base ingredients are the same for each blend. However, the percentages are a bit different. For example, Volumizing Therapé is intended for those with normal to oily hair. There is a higher percentage of cleansing surfactants in Volumizing Therapé than in the Moisture Therapé. Moisture Therapé has a higher percentage of proteins to enrich the hair, while still supporting the scalp. Scalp Therapé has a slightly different pH to help balance the scalp, without stripping the hair. Kid’s Therapé is a bit more cleansing, as kids tend to get dirtier than adults. Of course, the surfactants I chose to work with are very gentle, even at higher concentrations.

Q: What sets each formula apart from each other?

  • TheraNeem Organix Gentle Therapé Shampoo & Conditioner - AKA Original Formula.
Same great formulas - new & improved look.
  • TheraNeem Organix Moisture Therapé Shampoo & Conditioner -
Intensely hydrating & repairing for dry, damaged hair & scalp. Helps repair & seal in essential nutrients for dehydrated hair that has been damaged by environmental overexposure and product use. Seaweed adds a nice "slip" to the hair and replaces the use of ingredients such as silicon found in many mainstream brands.
  • TheraNeem Organix Kid’s Therapé Shampoo/Bodywash & Conditioner -
Extra Gentle for Sensitive Eyes, Skin, Hair & Scalps - Nourish & care for your little one’s sensitive skin, hair & scalp. No lidocaine or numbing agents. A higher concentration of Neem for more Neem protection.
  • TheraNeem Organix Volumizing Therapé Shampoo & Conditioner -
Intensely uplifting for limp or fine hair. Lighter, more cleansing for oily or heavy/limp hair. Formulated with herbs that revitalize the scalp and boost hair growth for people facing hair loss.

Q: What are some of the new ingredients that you are using in the formulas?
A: We use a beet sugar based surfactant (lactic acid from beets, not milk) that is actually rated in Japan as a humectant that adds moisture. This means that while our shampoos are cleansing, they also are ultra moisturizing and gentle.
• We also use hydrolyzed rice protein for added hair conditioning.
• We are pleased to offer a 100% gluten free line for our sensitive customers.

Q: I am used to salon-quality shampoo and conditioners, how do yours compare?
A: The new formulas are focused on the more sophisticated consumers in health food stores - those who want salon-quality products, but are still careful about their ingredients. And of course, I did not want to lose the initial intent of supporting scalp health. The new formulas are ‘greener’ as there are more ingredients available today. I also optimized each blend for different hair types, including other supportive herbs along with nourishing Neem.

Q: Is your Kids Therapé Shampoo and Bodywash safe for infants?
A: Yes, it was formulated to be extremely gentle, yet effective for children and infants.

Q: Is your Kids Therapé Shampoo and Bodywash tear free?
A: Yes, it is very gentle on the eyes. During formulation, it was repeatedly tested for its eye friendliness.

Q: I heard that Neem is safe and effective to use with lice?
A: We do not offer any ‘pesticides’ in our product line, as that would require EPA registration and animal testing. With that said, there is a vast amount of reliable information documenting Neem’s effectiveness in controlling insects and parasites. One of the growing problems with all forms of pesticides is that the “bugs” have become resistant to the active ingredients in over-the-counter drugs such as lindane lotion, Permethrin (Nix) rinse, and Malathion (Prioderm) 0.5%. There are 6 to 12 million cases of head lice in the United States every year, more often seen in children than adults.

Questions on Neem Oil for the garden

Why should the Neem Oil for the Garden be mixed with dish detergent?
Mixing Neem oil with an environmentally friendly dishwashing detergent is an import step to using Neem oil for the garden as it helps to emulsify the Neem oil. The emulsification helps to ensure that the Neem oil is more evenly applied when it is sprayed on the plants. It is very important to not apply the Neem oil in full sunlight and to use a small amount per application to not burn or fry your plants with the oil. Some house plants do not respond well to Neem oil applied t the leaves. It is a good idea to do a test run on a few leaves, to make sure that the plant responds well to Neem oil. You can also apply the Neem oil mixture to the soil surrounding the plant to help protect and feed the soil and preserve the integrity of the plant.

Be sure to only use environmentally friendly and non-toxic dish soap without synthetic fragrances.

Can Neem oil kill unhealthy fungus and bacteria or be used as a pesticide in my garden?

  • In the USA we cannot claim that Neem is a pesticide, fungicide, used to reduce microbial load, or as an insecticide.

Can the TheraNeem Mouthwash help with bad breath and gum issues?

TheraNeem is the only mouthwash and toothpaste that contain the concentrated power of organic CO2 extracts. We use as much as 250 lbs of plant material to yield one lb of a super critical extract. This makes our oral care products super concentrated and beneficial to supporting healthy gum tissue and a beautiful smile!

It is important to hold the mouthwash, and/or the toothpaste in the mouth for 1-2 minutes, so that the herbs have the opportunity to better penetrate, tighten and support the gum tissue.

Our oral care system can help with bad breath. Many holistic health practitioners believe that bad breath is a result of diet and lifestyle choices. Mouthwash and toothpaste will help, but the daily choices of an individual greatly contribute to the health of the body and the smells we give off as mouth and body odors.

Can pure Neem Oil be used with babies and infants?

As always, we at Organix-South encourage you to consult your primary health care provider for your child or infant if you are concerned about using any body care product. Our pure, organic or ethically wildcrafted Neem oil can be used with babies and infants if well tolerated. Neem oil has been used topically for thousands of years with people of all ages to support healthy skin. Neem oil is gentle, non-irritating and helps to soothe the skin wherever it is applied.

Some infants are very sensitive to strong aromas; therefore, we generally recommend pure Neem oil for use with children over two as a precautionary measure. Another option is to use one of our products (such as Neem cream, Neem Leaf and Aloe Gel) which contain the Neem oil and Neem leaf extract. These products still contain the therapeutic benefits of Neem, but are not as concentrated as pure Neem oil. You can also try diluting a few drops of Neem oil into organic olive oil if you would prefer to use the pure Neem oil topically.

Neem oil is not intended for internal uses with children, infants or adults.

The key words to think about with Neem oil: Cooling, soothing and astringent (helps to tighten skin tissue).

Are the Neem soaps safe for for use during or pregnancy or lactation?

Are the essential oils in the TheraNeem® soaps too concentrated or contraindicated for use during or pregnancy or lactation?

During pregnancy or lactation it is wise to consult your primary health care provider if there is any concern or potential contraindication for using a body care product or a dietary supplement.

When creating a pure soap, the heat created from the processing of the soap (saponification) damages some of the therapeutic constituents of the essential oils. Any form of heat will damage the volatile constituents of an essential oil. The essential oils present in our soap still offer "aromatherapeutic" benefits to calm and nourish the mind and body. However, the concentration of essential oils present in our soaps are not intended to have the same physiologically therapeutic effects as when using a more concentrated amount of essential oils.

The concentration of essential oils in a bar of TheraNeem® soap is very mild, and should not have a potential adverse affect, or induce contractions, menses, or an abortion (as is often the concern with some essential oils including Clary Sage, Salvia sclarea). The amount of essential oil required to have abortifacient effect is substantially higher than is found in our handmade soaps. In our opinion the small amount of essential oils in our soaps are safe for all individuals including pregnant women and during lactation unless they have an allergy or aversion to the essential oils aromas.

Can the Neem creams be used by people with all skin types?

Our TheraNeem leaf and oil creams are rich in botanical nutrients. They are perfect for all skin types and for general facial and body care. Neem oil is rich in essential fatty acids that feed and nourish the skin in a similar manner to Sea Buckthorn. Neem leaf and oil are rich in anti-oxidants that help to protect the skin and reduce signs of aging. Our lotions and creams are rich in organic ingredients for the skin: Aloe vera, organic sunflower oil, organic jojoba oil, shea butter, and vitamin E.  Ideal ingredients for all skin types!

  • Neem Lotion has 2% Neem oil and 35% aqueous Neem extract
  • Neem Cream has 5% Neem oil and 35% aqueous Neem extract

Neem creams and lotion are great for persistent skin issues, chronic dry, irritated or itchy skin, challenged skin, sunburns, after snow lotion, and for general skin and facial care.

It is also important to moisturize challenged skin. Overly dry skin can produce more irritations and imbalance.

The key words to think about with Neem for internal and external use:  Cooling, soothing and astringent (helps to tighten skin tissue).

TheraNeem® Creams:

  • Choose from Original Vanilla or Sweet Orange & Ylang scent.

For more intensive hair and scalp care:

  1. Massage the scalp with 3-4 droppers full of our cold pressed Neem oil enough to saturate hair and scalp. For longer or really thick hair add the 3-4 droppers full of Neem oil to TheraNeem Scalp Therapé Shampoo, Kids Therapé Shampoo and Bodywash or olive oil to help extend the neem oil and to completely coat and saturate the hair and scalp with Neem. Leave the Neem oil combined with TheraNeem Shampoo or olive oil on hair and scalp for 1 hour.
  2. Cover hair with a shower cap or old towel.
  3. Comb through hair while the oil is still in the hair to remove any “undesirables”.
  4. Wash hair again with TheraNeem Shampoo, allowing the shampoo to “rest” on the hair and scalp for 3-5 minutes. Finish by leaving a small amount of TheraNeem Conditioner on hair as a leave-in conditioner.
  5. Repeat this process for up to 3 days, or as needed.

You can also try adding 10-20 drops of organic lavender essential oils per application to help soothe and support healthy scalp and hair.

For moderate hair and scalp care:

  1. Add 3-4 drops of Neem oil to TheraNeemshampoo, or add 3-4 drops of Neem oil to olive oil. Use enough shampoo or olive oil to completely coat hair and scalp. Massage vigorously into hair and scalp for 1-2 minutes.
  2. Follow steps 2-6 above for best results.

Can the TheraNeem® Organix Shampoo & Conditioner help with an itchy scalp or hair loss?

TheraNeem® shampoo and conditioner are an ideal combination for hair and scalp issues that are irritated and itchy. Neem leaf and Neem oil provide soothing, cooling, and astringent actions, helping to protect and support healthy hair and scalp. Neem leaf and Neem oil have been used for thousands of years to support healthy skin and radiant hair. We receive countless testimonials about our hair care products from thrilled individuals who have tried everything, nothing has worked, and then they found Neem!

We have also received many testimonials regarding Neem helping to reduce hair loss. Traditionally Neem leaf extracts and Neem oil have been used to prevent hair loss by thousands of individuals in India. Every one is different, some people may notice great changes with using Neem to prevent hair loss, and others may not have as great of results. Hair loss, like bad breath are generally viewed as resulting from the inside out from dietary and lifestyle choices that contribute to this circumstance. Hair loss is often perceived as a lack of nutrition, stress, lack of sleep and or genetics.

Our Shampoo is thinner than most shampoos so it penetrates completely to deliver the active ingredients in Neem to your scalp where they are most needed. Our shampoo contains organic Neem leaf extract and organic Neem oil, plus botanical extracts to strengthen and condition your hair. There are no sodium lauryl or laureth sulfates in our pH-balanced formula.

For best results be sure to allow the shampoo and conditioner to “rest” on the hair and scalp for 1-2 minutes to allow the botanical nutrients to penetrate the scalp and provide greater cooling, soothing, and astringent actions.

Why do you use sorbitol in your oral care products?

A: Because our products are Neem-based and Neem is a bitter tasting herb, we need to use sweeteners to improve the flavor and taste of these products. We use Sorbitol, along with Xylitol, in our TheraNeem Organix Oral Care products because both are considered to be "safe" sweeteners. Additionally, studies have shown that the combination of sorbitol and xylitol has been effective in reducing plaque, providing an added benefit. If you are concerned with the added sweeteners and just want the benefits of Neem, we recommend using our Neem Leaf Alcohol Extract – mix 20 drops in 2 oz. of water and use as a mouth rinse. As with our Mouthwash, for maximum benefits, we recommend you hold in your mouth for 1 – 2 minutes.

From the Organix- South ingredient dictionary - Sorbitol: A vegetable derived humectant and sweetener. If ingested in excess, may cause diarrhea (so don't drink lots of our mouthwash).

Where does your Palm Oil come from?

A: Our Organic Palm Oil Comes from Sustainable Site in Brazil.

Organix-South, Inc., the world’s leading manufacturer of certified-organic neem products, has signed the Rainforest Action Network pledge to use only environmentally sensitive palm oil and is calling for other major manufacturers to require standards that protect rainforests.

The key words to think about with Neem for internal and external use:  Cooling, soothing and astringent (helps to tighten skin tissue).
