What is Neem?Neem is a tree native to Southeast Asia and it is renowned for its therapeutic benefits externally for the skin and for internally as a dietary supplement. What is Neem like? Our certified organic and ethically wild crafted Neem oil and Neem leaf extracts are commonly likened to Tea Tree essential oil for its broad-spectrum actions; however Neem is not as drying or irritating to the skin as Tea Tree oil. Neem leaf has a mild aroma, and is cooling, bitter and astringent when taken internally as a dietary supplement or applied topically. Neem is naturally rich in Quercetin; Quercetin is valued for its ability to support the body’s response to inflammation. All forms of Neem contain high levels of antioxidants which help to protect our body internally and externally. Neem oil has a rich, nutty and garlic like aroma that smells like food. This nutty/garlic like aroma provides protection for your outdoor fun, pets and the garden. Without this pleasant aroma, Neem oil would not work! Note: Neem oil is for external applications only! FAQs about ProductsWhy is Neem oil solid at room temperature?Neem oil is rich in essential fatty acids (like coconut oil). It is solid at a cool room temperature (72 degrees Fahrenheit). Can the TheraNeem Mouthwash help with bad breath and gum issues?TheraNeem is the only mouthwash and toothpaste that contain the concentrated power of organic CO2 extracts. We use as much as 250 lbs of plant material to yield one lb of a super critical extract. This makes our oral care products super concentrated and beneficial to supporting healthy gum tissue and a beautiful smile! It is important to hold the mouthwash, and/or the toothpaste in the mouth for 1-2 minutes, so that the herbs have the opportunity to better penetrate, tighten and support the gum tissue. Our oral care system can help with bad breath. Many holistic health practitioners believe that bad breath is a result of diet and lifestyle choices. Mouthwash and toothpaste will help, but the daily choices of an individual greatly contribute to the health of the body and the smells we give off as mouth and body odors. Dr. Andrew Weil recommends neem for challenged oral health conditions! http://www.drweil.com Can pure Neem Oil be used with babies and infants? As always, we at Organix-South encourage you to consult your primary health care provider for your child or infant if you are concerned about using any body care product. Our pure, organic or ethically wildcrafted Neem oil can be used with babies and infants if well tolerated. Neem oil has been used topically for thousands of years with people of all ages to support healthy skin. Neem oil is gentle, non-irritating and helps to soothe the skin wherever it is applied. Some infants are very sensitive to strong aromas; therefore, we generally recommend pure Neem oil for use with children over two as a precautionary measure. Another option is to use one of our products (such as Neem cream, Neem Leaf and Aloe Gel) which contain the Neem oil and Neem leaf extract. These products still contain the therapeutic benefits of Neem, but are not as concentrated as pure Neem oil. You can also try diluting a few drops of Neem oil into organic olive oil if you would prefer to use the pure Neem oil topically. Neem oil is not intended for internal uses with children, infants or adults. The key words to think about with Neem oil: Cooling, soothing and astringent (helps to tighten skin tissue).
Are the Neem soaps safe for for use during or pregnancy or lactation? Are the essential oils in the TheraNeem® soaps too concentrated or contraindicated for use during or pregnancy or lactation? During pregnancy or lactation it is wise to consult your primary health care provider if there is any concern or potential contraindication for using a body care product or a dietary supplement. When creating a pure soap, the heat created from the processing of the soap (saponification) damages some of the therapeutic constituents of the essential oils. Any form of heat will damage the volatile constituents of an essential oil. The essential oils present in our soap still offer "aromatherapeutic" benefits to calm and nourish the mind and body. However, the concentration of essential oils present in our soaps are not intended to have the same physiologically therapeutic effects as when using a more concentrated amount of essential oils. The concentration of essential oils in a bar of TheraNeem® soap is very mild, and should not have a potential adverse affect, or induce contractions, menses, or an abortion (as is often the concern with some essential oils including Clary Sage, Salvia sclarea). The amount of essential oil required to have abortifacient effect is substantially higher than is found in our handmade soaps. In our opinion the small amount of essential oils in our soaps are safe for all individuals including pregnant women and during lactation unless they have an allergy or aversion to the essential oils aromas. Can the Neem creams be used by people with all skin types? Our TheraNeem leaf and oil creams are rich in botanical nutrients. They are perfect for all skin types and for general facial and body care. Neem oil is rich in essential fatty acids that feed and nourish the skin in a similar manner to Sea Buckthorn. Why do you use sorbitol in your oral care products?A: Because our products are Neem-based and Neem is a bitter tasting herb, we need to use sweeteners to improve the flavor and taste of these products. We use Sorbitol, along with Xylitol, in our TheraNeem Organix Oral Care products because both are considered to be "safe" sweeteners. Additionally, studies have shown that the combination of sorbitol and xylitol has been effective in reducing plaque, providing an added benefit. If you are concerned with the added sweeteners and just want the benefits of Neem, we recommend using our Neem Leaf Alcohol Extract – mix 20 drops in 2 oz. of water and use as a mouth rinse. As with our Mouthwash, for maximum benefits, we recommend you hold in your mouth for 1 – 2 minutes. From the Organix- South ingredient dictionary - Sorbitol: A vegetable derived humectant and sweetener. If ingested in excess, may cause diarrhea (so don't drink lots of our mouthwash).
